Universal Asynchronus Receiver/Transmitter. A controller chip which transforms the parallel datastream from the I/O bus to a serial bitstream used in the serial ports. UART 16550A is such a controller. It transmits with a maximum of 115 kbit per secund. Please see module 5b.
