Cyclic Redundancy Check. Cyclic Redundancy Check. A method to control that a datapacket has been transferred correctly from one unit to another. The transmitter adds a little extra control packet of say 32 bits, which has been calculated on the basis of the main packet.
The receiver performs the same calculation and the compares the result with the control packet. If they match, the packet appears to be OK. Otherwise it has to be re-transferred.
Used in modems and other interfaces.
