Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. A modem, which gives much more bandwidth than the traditional K56 standard does.

ADSL works (like DSL) on ordinary telephone wire, which at the same time is open to telephony. With ADSL you are always online.

ADSL is asymmetric; you will often get a better bandwidth downstream (for download) than upstream.
